ABOUT US
Several years ago, Second United Presbyterian Church became a Shared Ministry with Swissvale Presbyterian Church. We gather together in love and fellowship to worship, study, and serve because we believe that God loves us and wants us to live our lives enjoying God and one another. We believe that God's Son, Jesus Christ, came into the world to show us the astonishing and forgiving love of God, to teach us to love others by following his teachings, to emulate the life of Jesus who we call Lord and Savior. We look to the Bible as the unique and authoritative witness to who God and Jesus are and to learn what is required in gratitude from us in this life. We believe that there is eternal life with God beyond this earthly one.
OUR STORY
Second Presbyterian Church moved into its current building in 1915. Because the church is located in a very diverse neighborhood, the members and leaders have worked at remaining responsive to the neighborhood's changing needs. In 2005, the Reverend Deb Warren became the first woman pastor to serve this congregation. Several years ago, we joined with Swissvale Presbyterian Church to form a Shared Ministry to better meet the needs of both churches and the communities that we both serve. Together, we serve our communities around us and online to the best of our abilities.
WHAT WE DO
We gather in love and fellowship to learn, worship, serve others, and enjoy the unique gifts that God has given to each one of us. We reach out to others in our local communities, our online communities, and the greater world in order to make the circle of caring larger and more inclusive.
OUR COMMUNITY
We are blessed to live in a community that touches the city of Pittsburgh in Regent Square, Edgewood, Swissvale and Wilkinsburg. We have created this Shared Ministry so that we may to serve all of the local communities around us as well as our online community. These areas are multicultural, integrated communities with folks of all ages, including many young families, students, and international residents. We welcome and invite all to join us for our events, our service activities, study and worship. We invite everyone to become an active part of our community and Shared Ministry.
